Student rail tickets

Rail is one of the fastest and safest ways to travel, let alone the most comfortable. Within the UK you can get pretty much anywhere by train with many rail companies doing deals on combined days out with rail travel. Hop on a train to the airport, visit a uni friend at the other end of the country or backpack around Europe by train. High speed trains are more readily available in built up areas and the Euro Star is one of the easiest routes to mainland Europe with core services running to ski resorts in the French Alps, Brussels, Disneyland Paris, Lille, Avignon and central Paris.

Discount rail tickets should be bought in advance to ensure the cheapest prices but you can also save by splitting your journey and taking a less direct route. If you’re travelling with your mates you can take a board game or entertain yourselves with ‘eye spy’ or ‘I have never…’ to stave off the travelling blues.

UK train fares can be bought with plus bus and London Underground included and to make things really-easy-peasy, you can even buy your cheap train tickets online and pick them up at your chosen train station. Don’t forget you also save 1/3 on all tickets with a 16-25 railcard which is well worth the money, and even better if you’ve acquired it for free via your Natwest Student Account!

Our Top Tip: On a long journey, make sure you pack a tasty snack as food at the stations often have elevated prices. Buy your tickets preferably in advance, but always before you travel to avoid a hefty fine.
